HAITI TOONIE CHALLENGE:
The Student Leadership Council would like to thank students, staff and community members for showing their generosity by donating to our Haiti relief fund.  A total of $2288.46 was raised and forwarded to Haiti through the Red Cross.  This successful fundraising event is another example of WCS members “working together for success”.

PANDEMIC PLANNING - H1N1 FLU VIRUS INFORMATION:
The safety and health of students and staff within the Prairie Valley School Division is the primary focus of pandemic planning.  While the H1N1 virus continues to be active at a low level, Prairie Valley School Division is prepared for a potential increase during the fall.  In conjunction with public health officials and the Health Regions throughout the School Division, Prairie Valley School Division has developed a plan to deal with H1N1.

The Public Health Agency identifies that, at this time, the most important factors in the control of the spread of the H1N1 influenza virus in schools are:
1.  Early identification of ill students and staff exhibiting influenza-like illness symptoms,
2.  Exclusion from the setting of anyone ill with symptoms of influenza-like and,
3.  Practicing cough/sneeze etiquette and frequent hand cleaning.

The following Regina Qu'Appelle Health region website provides a number of links about H1N1 and pandemic planning:  http://www.rqhealth.ca/programs/pandemic/index.shtml
Public Health Canada also has an informative website:  http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/alert-alerte/h1n1/interim-provisoires0819-eng.php.
